I'm Sorry, So Sorry...

This plant was so incredibly gorgeous when it was given to me. It's a white cyclamen. I'm ashamed to say it has been going down hill ever since I got it. I don't know what it needs, but it obviously is not getting it from me. If it survives the rest of the winter in my care, I think I'll plant it in Ed's new shade garden. At this rate I'll have to set up a plant ICU.

I had thes same problem with cyclamen. My living room was too hot for it... It never had more than two leaves at a time. I returned it to my mother's cold and shady windowsill where it still lives happily..

Don't feel badly, Becky. Cyclamen don't like it too warm, don't want to be underwatered but don't like wet feet, and sometimes they just arbitrarily die. I've had numerous ones succumb, but they do very well in my office which is one of the coolest rooms in the house. I plant them outside in the spring in a shady part of the yard, and they'll often flower right through to a hard frost. They aren't hardy here (most of them) so I just enjoy them and buy new ones every fall.

Don't throw it out as I think some cyclamens go dormant. Just put it out of the way somewhere and forget about it and I bet it will bounce back.

Some plants are hard to please! They are Princess and the Pea plants...Not too hot, not too cold, no wet feet, don't dry out! We enjoy them anyway...unless we have cats who eat them! I hope the advice works...they are sweet flowers.

Becky, thanks for visiting my blog...always interesting to see what gardeners visit and their location. Your cyclamen brings to mind the wild ones I saw growing in Greece while visiting the hilltop town of Monemvasia. There they were in full glory growing on top of a rocky hill on little to no soil. No babying there!! I too would put it aside and hope for the best....you may be pleasantly surprised.

I never had any luck with cyclamen either - they are really picky about temperature and water levels...I once left on holidays for 3 weeks, and when I came back most of my plants were a little wilty, but fine, and my cyclamen was dried up and dead. I have not had one since...
